It seems like forever that the Monkey’s and I had an afternoon together to do with as we pleased. It seems as though they are usually filled with errands, chores, homework, and other monotonous seemingly pointless drivel.
BUT the other day we were able to bake and craft in the same afternoon!!
There is always a cue at the mixer….
Especially if we are mixing banana bread or brownies.
After the baking we engaged in the gooey crafting. I had a hard time explaining to Monkey Boy why gluey concoctions are best left to after the baking, but he was patient.
We experimented with a Family Fun yarn craft, but as always we put a Marchville spin on things, and the finished products did take a few days longer than expected to dry.
These are the moments I savor. Sometimes it may get a bit squirrely trying to keep everybody busy, but I love the hands-on creativity projects with the Monkeys. It gives them a canvas to express themselves and talk with me about things they may have forgotten about during the bustle of the week. I also love to see the way they encourage each other in their process and share ideas. Here’s to slow afternoons.
