The other weekend I hosted a homespun swap which was the brainchild of a few of my friends. So many friends were canning and preserving this summer and fall they thought it would be great to swap a few jars for others.
I love to entertain, opening my home up to friends and family gives me such joy. I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like, time being the lacking element in my life, but I find it’s easier to have friends come to me.The swap not only brought new and old friends alike to the house, but wonderful snacks, and wine I had never heard of before arrived too. I think next time it should be called a ‘Swap ‘n Sip’
I try not to over obsess about cleaning before company arrives, but I do want people to be able to walk freely in the house and not need to follow a path! I understand that in some circles the perfectly clean and organized home is the standard. This is NOT my house. (remember: I work outside the home & going to grad school. These are not excuses but reality, I’d much rather craft, read or snuggle with the Monkeys than clean.)
My constant battle is de-cluttering. We are a reading family. Books, magazines, newspapers, school papers, catalogs, and knitting patterns cover most flat surfaces in our home. I do not think that it is a bad thing. I try to have baskets & shelves and other repositories for our ephemera, but it does get a bit out of hand sometimes.
But I digress….. If you want to feel good about the state of your home, come visit mine! I am not gonna get too hung up on stuff spread out all over from the latest whim of the Monkeys, but I will have a hissy-fit if the dirty underwear is not picked up from the middle of the living room floor!
